The Professor Who Bottled Enamel: 25 Years of ApaCare
Share
Every ApaCare tube carries a line that's easy to skim past: Made in Germany · Clinically proven since 1997. Behind it sits one of the longest-running research programmes in consumer oral care. This is the short version of that story.
A question nobody was asking
In the 1990s, toothpaste innovation meant new flavours and whiter stripes. At the University of Tübingen, dentist and researcher Prof. Dr. Rainer Hahn was working on a different question: teeth are mineral — so why does no toothpaste actually replace lost mineral?
His answer became what ApaCare calls liquid enamel: medical-grade hydroxyapatite, the same calcium phosphate mineral enamel is made of, engineered into particles sized, purified and stabilised to bond with the tooth surface.
25 years of measurement, not marketing
What separates ApaCare from the wave of hydroxyapatite brands that followed is time and rigour. Every formulation begins in the lab. Particle sizes are controlled. Results are measured, reproduced, and published across two and a half decades of clinical work. In 2026, parent company Cumdente was named among Germany's TOP 100 most innovative medium-sized companies.
Beyond enamel: the microbiome era
The research didn't stop at minerals. The OraLactin range grew from the recognition that gum problems, bad breath and recurring cavities usually start with an imbalanced oral microbiome — and that specific probiotic strains can restore that balance. Enamel repair and microbiome care now work as one system.
